The cross is associated with Brigid of Kildare, the patron saint of Ireland whose Feast Day (Lá Fhéile Bhríde) is February 1st. A traditional story tells how St. Brigid wove a cross out of rushes or straw and used it to teach about Christianity. This Pewter St. Brigid Cross is made by Mullingar Pewter in Westmeath County, Ireland.
