Ahenny Cross
North Cross, East Face
Co. Tipperary, Ireland

Low in the stem of the North Cross at Ahenny, a geometric motif is found in three rows on top of each other. Within the ring, an interwoven web emerges from the sun symbol and weaves through to animate the dead stone.
The cross as a symbol of death is covered by a foreve field of life that penetrates everything. The cross becomes the "Tree of Life". Even today, the cross at Ahenny conveys some idea of the life-giving effect the crosses once had on men in tune with mythical religion.
