For those that do not know the legend of The Salmon of Knowledge, or those who’d like to remember the tale from their past, The Salmon of Knowledge is a story about a legendary fish in Irish mythology. In the tale, the salmon gained all the world’s wisdom by eating magic hazelnuts that fell into the Well of Wisdom. It is said then, that the poet named Finegas, spent years trying to catch it. After a time, he finally did! He caught the salmon and brought it home. It was there he asked his apprentice, a man who was called Fionn mac Cumhaill, to cook the salmon but not to eat any of it. However, while cooking, Fionn burned his thumb and as a reaction stuck his thumb in his mouth, to soothe the pain. In doing so, he accidentally gained the salmon’s wisdom. From that day on, Fionn could access great knowledge just by sucking his thumb.
